The Ninga Rai property is a traditional Romania holiday rental overlooking a splendid natural scenery, at the heart of historical Maramures. We integrated nature and housing in one single hospitality concept, offering style and comfort while being surrounded by the beauty of rural life in one of the most untouched landscapes in Romania. The traditional wooden house has been refurbished to modern comfort standards. Ninga Rai is the perfect base for visiting the surrounding region. We rent the entire 140 sqm countryside house placed on a 5 ha. rural property, offering one of the best lodging experiences in Romania. The patio is a magical place for breakfasts, dinners and lazy day-resting, while the hammocks are waiting for you in the nearby gazebo and in the orchards. The house interiors are a soft blend of rural and classical styles, mixing antique furniture with local workmanship. At the first floor there are two sleeping rooms, the main one with a king-size bed. The ground floor offers multiple spaces: a dining room, a living room, “the writers corner”, a bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen with direct access to the patio.

A big traditional wooden gate marks the entry at Ninga Rai. The property is located on a hill just outside Poienile Izei, going north to Glod and Stramtura. The house is located 200 mt from the entrance, an internal road will easily bring you there. Lenutza is the dedicated house assistant, available for catering, housekeeping and infos. She will offer you her courtesy home-made snacks, prepared for you every day. Ion and Maria take care of the property since we bought some of the land from them. You can follow them performing their daily duties and eventually decide to participate to some of their activities. This is a great things for kids! You can also stroll around the hills and reach beautiful picnic spots with Ion’s hay wagon. Adrian, the owner, is often hanging around the property trying to do something useful, so he will be delighted to help or counsel you. Summer months can be hot with fresh evenings and nights. Winter snow is magic and you can enjoy sliding around the slopes. Poienile Izei gets alive during the many religious celebrations.

Any real travel experience to Romania must include at least a few days in the Maramures region, at the heart of which Ninga Rai is located. You can enjoy trekking or just strolling around the fields in Poienile Izei and the surrounding area, while meeting people performing their daily duties. The beautiful romanian villages of Maramures get alive during the various religious celebrations, offering some of the most authentic moments in the whole country. The antique wooden churches of Maramures are spiritual places immersed in nature since the XVII century and are worth visiting with no rush. A nearby destination is the Mocanita train in Viseu de Sus, a 40 minutes drive from Ninga Rai. You should also visit the Merry Cemetry in Sapanta, with its tragi-comic gravestones. It will take a 1 hour drive. On your way to Sapanta you can visit the “Memorial of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance” in Sighetu Marmatiei, one of the few confirmations that Romania has successfully tried to deal with it’s past. Overall, we recommend the quietness, comfort and beautiful panorama that you can enjoy at Ninga Rai.
