Grigorescu Mansion is a small private, family-run venue ("agropensiune") near the Muddy Volcanoes in Buzau Valley. The mansion is mentioned in the tourism guide “The most beautiful villages of Romania”. The abandoned mansion from 1930 and surrounding buildings were bought in 2011 by Juranda and Thorsten, a Romanian-German couple. Everything was renovated step by step with local craftsmen and local construction materials. Today, the mansion is family home and head office of Terra Carpatica – a slow food provider and producer of home-made preservatives. 3 apartment/rooms are provided in the new build Wallachian style country house Casa Noelia (annex of Grigorescu Mansion) and in the newly renovated “Grandmother’s house” with a total capacity of 10 persons. The location is an insider tip for guest who like culinary experiences and a family atmosphere. For guests and private groups a slow food 3-courses dinner or a New Romanian Cuisine cooking class is offered upon request. The menu is established on a daily base, depending on available fresh products from the region and own organic production. Vegetarian or special allergen-free menus are available.
Juranda is passionate about home-made, artisanal food, strictly using local ingredients from own production or surrounding orchards and forests. She combines traditional Romanian food recipes with international influences and creates a unique Romanian slow food cuisine. After living for more than 10 years in Wroclaw, Paris and Bavaria, she returned in 2008 to Romania and moved to Buzau county where her family orginally comes from. She founded the tourism development association of Buzau county, TravelBuzau, and shortly later Terra Carpatica, making of a simple hobby a culinary passion. Thorsten is born in Germany and travelled around the world, working as international development consultant. In 2008 he moved to Romania where he initiated several tourism projects. After visiting the Dealu Mare wine area he decided to start a new chapter in Buzau county and to follow in his family's foodsteps, his grandparents being owner of country restaurant and his father of a local delicatessen shop. He is passionate about the nature of the Carpathian mountains, where we find all our ingredients including truffles.
